A Very Happy Birthday Photo Shoot

Oh yeah: any excuse for some pictures. Today is my lovely mommy's birthday! Being the neglectful child that I am, the alarm I set in my phone wasn't set in time to get a decent card in the post. (Yup. I'm lame; mea culpa.) However, I did still intend to get some cute photos of Ethan together for some e-cards. Anyone up for a few cute baby pictures? Good, because here they come.
This was one of my favourites. (And those eyes aren't touched up!)

After we'd fixed it so he wasn't doing the splits anymore...
One of the best smiles. Courtesy of fake sneezes.

Another cheeky laugh (and nose wrinkle) caught on film. That's my boy!
Something I love about these? He has hair that you can see now! Seriously, people, it's the little things.

In other news, how nice do those chairs look? They photograph almost as well as Ethan! And of course you know I'm always thinking about three steps ahead, so it should come as no surprise that I'm considering making seat cushions for these bad boys along with a few table runners. Our 8-foot table is too pretty, IMO, to be covered up by a full tablecloth, but a nice runner wouldn't go amiss. I'm thinking something with grey and white chevrons for everyday and then something with some red, perhaps, for Thanksgiving and Christmas...

That would look swish on the table with our new blue chairs. At least, I think so. And since the Husband is far less picky about seat cushion fabric than he was about the colour I painted the chairs, I may go in for something like this for those...

In the end, tying things back together and all, I have my mom to thank for my love of DIY. There was only so much we could do with the house we grew up in, and some times what we did do was a bit ill-adivsed (umm, apple green bedroom walls?), but Mom was always good about doing a little bit here and a little bit there to make our place feel more our own in terms of decor. And now that she and Far have their own place? My hat is off to anyone who demos and redecorates their kitchen, dining room, master bedroom, and master bath. Oh, and moves reclaimed hardwood flooring into the office, too. Those two are champs. Not to mention, if I can actually sew some seat cushions, I'm sure I'll have finally done my mother proud...especially if I can pin and cut the pattern correctly. That is so much harder than you'd think; I swear.

So, happy birthday, Mom! Do something fun and crazy...and perhaps even - dare I say it? - vaguely irresponsible. Or at least blast the tunes and dance it out in the living room. :)

  1. Hey! That apple green wall color was NOT a mistake. It was pretty! It made me happy, and you didn't really live at home anymore anyway. So what if it sort of clashed with the orange shag carpet? We had a green rug! It worked. I AM NOW GOING TO COMMENT IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I AM AN ANGRY INTERNET COMMENTER! HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY LAURA ASHLEY WALL COLORRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!! (Note: Please read this aloud, as written, while "O Fortuna" plays in the background)
